Immunohistochemical Study of the Serotonin-immunoreactive Cell in the Gastrointestinal Tract of the Korean Native Goat

Abstract
The regional distribution and relative frequency of gastrointestinal serotonin-immunoreactive cells were studied during the postnatal development (1 day old, 1 month old, 6-month-old and adult) of the Korean native goat by immunohistochemical methods.
Serotonin-immunoreactive cells were seen throughout the gastrointestinal tract of all postnatal stages. The highest number of these cells was distributed in the colon of the 1 day old, in the duodenum of the 1 month old and the adult, and in the pyloric gland region and jejunum of the 6-month-old. These cells seemed to decrease according to the increase of age except for the duodenum and jejunum.
In this study, immunnoreaetive cells revealed the differences of regional distribution and the relative frequency in the gastrointestinal tract during postnatal development. These results suggest that although the functional significance of fetal endocrine cells remains unknown, this was caused by changing of feeding habits and physiological conditions during different ages.
